Every year the First Night Oil City committee chooses a new theme for the next First Night. Generally, the theme is inspired by a major event or anniversary occurring that year. From this theme graphics, entertainment and events for First Night evolve.
For the 2019-20 First Night the theme is Woodstock. This theme was selected because 2019 is the 50 year Anniversery of Woodstock.
Besides a theme each year the Chinese horoscope inspires a mascot for the People’s Procession, First Night’s opening parade. Last year was the year of the dog and this year is Year of the Pig.
